EXCERPT:

Cooper was just a little postage stamp of a town snuggled up in the northwest corner of Colorado, almost as an after thought.  In past days, it might have been referred to as a one horse town, but in these times it was a one-movie-theater town.

Rudy Deitweiler pretty much ran the theater. It was owned by George McAdams, who owned many of the other commercial establishments in town, but he left Rudy alone to take care of most everything in the theater....

It was just another Saturday night again and Rudy said goodnight to the projectionist, one of the few blacks for miles. Hank had been there even longer than him, a gentle tobacco-chewing man in his early seventies....

They dragged the ladder out on the tiles under the marquee.... Hank waved goodbye and Rudy started taking down the old title and arranging the letters of the new picture....

As Rudy hung the seven, he noticed a car parked near the end of the street. he couldn't make out the make or model, but he had a clear view of the license plate....
